Chetumal-

This weekend we went "kraas di bordah!" or across the border in Creole, to Chetumal Mexico. After turning off my alarm twice with out realizing it, i met Emily at her house at 3:50am for our 4am departure. One of Emily's friends drives a charter bus, a school bus that a group can rent for the weekend, and it had extra seats, so we got to go for free. Emily's sister and her boyfriend (also the bus driver's little brother) also came along. The first few hours of the ride were quiet, we stopped in Belmopan for breakfast and then arrived at the boarder around 8:45. The official at the mexican side looked like he wanted to give me a hard time. He flipped through my passport several times, looking carefully at each page and then back to my picture page, then back at me... He asked how long we were staying and after I said just one night, he was like okay, whatever and stamped it and gave it back... why do border officials hate me so much?

We stayed at the Hotel Marquis, which had a nice pool and AC in the rooms. We were all starving so we went off to the Mall of the Americas for good sushi lunch and some shopping. Finally found some decent priced tank tops (b/c i forgot all mine at home...) and then bought beer and went to go to the pool. The water felt really good and it also was nice to be lazy after a long morning in the bus. After pool and a nap, we went out to find dinner and to find which club we should go to later on. We decided on the Caribe Club and it had blasting techno music and lots of strobes/ other fun colored lights. But when we walked in, no one was dancing. The whole floor was covered in tables and chairs that people were sitting at, looking bored. Not at all what i was expecting. But after we ordered some beer (which came in a huge Corona bottle that had a spout at the bottom) the place started to get more lively. We didn't stay that long b/c Emily's sister wasn't feeling too great, I was a little disappointed b/c I actually had the energy to stay for a while and dance. But it was also nice to get to bed at a decent hour- it was already 1:30am haha. Sunday we went to the big market for breakfast and I had an amazing Verde mixed fruit and veggie drink and huevos rancheros. We were about to catch a cab to take us up to Calderitas, when the sky opened up and it started pouring. So we opted for the Mayan Museum instead. It was really neat! Took lots of pictures and got excited for my trip there starting tomorrow!

I plan to head to Flores and see what kind of hiking tours they have. They say it gets a little dicy in the rainy season (just started at the beginning of june), but hopefully they still go b/c it's early in the season. Stay posted!
